Brief History of NAMA
The National Association of Mapúa Alumni, Inc.-its acronym being NAMA-is composed of all graduates of the Mapúa Institute of Technology (MIT), an institution of higher learning founded in 1925.
In its infancy, NAMA was simply known as the Association of Mapúa Alumni (AMA). However, the number of alumni grew in great proportions through the late 1950s. The increase was propelled by the successes being shown by MIT graduates in all disciplines as manifested in the accolades obtained through government licensure examinations as well as in the ascendance to top positions in the business enterprises.
It took just a little over three decades before one can see an outstanding Mapúan in every corner of the Philippine archipelago. AMA has become national in scope and thus was born in 1960 the National Association of Mapúa Alumni, Inc. that was duly registered in 1960 with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Along with the official establishment of NAMA was born the affiliate organizations of Mapúa alumni. Affiliates are initially based on courses offered at MIT. But when Mapúa graduates began to be sought after in foreign lands, inevitably it was just a matter of time that expatriated Mapúans bonded together in their chosen new home. This action gave rise to the creation of overseas affiliate organizations of Mapúa alumni.
Today, there are 13 local and 10 overseas affiliate organizations that actively participate in NAMA Conventions and Grand Alumni Homecomings. Each affiliate organization boasts of highly touted professionals whose number continue to grow unabated. This is a testimony that NAMA will remain a dynamic organization to reckon with in every facet of engineering and allied courses as it moves on towards new horizons.
